The Oscar fever hit the entertainment industry as the big names of the movies descended for the award ceremony on Saturday night. A lot of expectations were placed on films like the Social Networking, the King’s Speech and the Fighter. The hot favorite was the King’s Speech followed by the Social Networking.
The presenters
The news presenter Rubin Roberts presented the awards along with Tim Gunn and Maria Menuonos. Roberts looked resplendent in her champagne colored single shouldered frock. Kirk Douglas, the screen legend, took over in between and he entertained the audience with anecdotes before announcing the best supporting actress nominee.
The best movie – King’s Speech
The British film, King’s Speech has made a sweep of all the major Oscar awards, which took place on Saturday. The movie’s worldwide collections have crossed a whooping $230 million. The lead actor of the movie, Colin Firth, won the Oscar for the best actor. Tom Hooper, the director won two Oscars for best direction and David Seidler won best original screenplay. He dedicated the award to all the people who stammer and are scared to face the world due to it. The movie actually had 12 nominations. The movie was loved by everybody, especially the excellent portrayal of the stammering king, King George VI by Colin Firth.
The Black Swan actress Natalie Portman won the award for the best actress. The actress expressed her happiness by thanking all her co actors. She seems exhilarated by the award and recognizes the adulation that she has received for her brilliant acting in the ballet thriller. Annette Bening, who has been nominated four times but has no win, was her biggest rival for the award.
Other awards
The Social Networking, one of the most popular movies of the year, based on the life of the Facebook founder, missed out on the major categories and had to settle with the best adapted screenplay, the best background score and the best film editing. The boxing movie, The Fighter, won the best supporting actors. The awards went to Briton Christian Bale, for the role of the brother of drug addict boxer Mickey Ward. Melissa Leo won the award for her brilliant portrayal of the boxer’s mother. Inside Job, which is an offshoot of the global recession, won the Oscar for the best documentary movie.
Best Foreign language and best animation movies
The best movie in the foreign language category went to the Danish movie “In a Better World”. The best animated short film award went to “The Lost Thing”. “Toy Story” won the best animated movie Oscar. This movie also won Oscar for the song We Belong Together as the best original score.
