Ah Facebook.
Facebook is really just a big social network that elitists (people who think they’re too good for MySpace) join but in reality it’s just as bad as MySpace without all of the music and blinking backgrounds. I went to a friend’s Facebook account yesterday and it was trying to load and crashed my browser. Needless to say I won’t be going back to her profile again. I keep mine simple. The only additional application I added was LoLCats because it’s downright funny.

The thing I hate MOST about Facebook is all of the stupid emails I would get because a friend “poked me” or “tickled me” or wrote something on some stupid Super Mega Uber wall about me and I had to sign up for it to read it. I got emails for free gifts and free gift cards and to join this network or that group or even if I wanted to be a vampire. I almost cancelled my Facebook account.

Feeling the same way?
First thing you need to do is log into your Facebook account.
We’re going to stop all of the emails that come to you directly from Facebook (not 3rd party applications).

Click on the “privacy” tab that the arrow is pointing too.

Then click on “Notifications”

image

You’ll then go down the long list and pick and choose what you do and do not want to be emailed about. I turned off “pokes me” for example because I’ll get over 25 emails a day just from that.

Now we’re going to stop all of those pesky emails from “third party applications” that you have blindly added to your Facebook. THE BEST way to keep this from happening is NOT TO SIGN UP FOR THESE APPLICATIONS unless you really want to. If you do and you are being bombarded by 1000’s of emails that you want to stop then you’re going to go back to the main page of your Facebook.

image

Click the “edit” tab that the red arrow is pointing too.
You are now at a page that says “Edit My Applications” at the top.

image

You are going to have to go down and edit each and every one of these by hand but that’s the price you pay. (It really isn’t that bad unless you have a bunch of applications installed).
So they’re all going to be done the same way.
Starting at the top click on “Edit Settings” and this box should pop up.

image

UNCHECK the box that says “Allow this application to contact me via email.” You’ll want to do this for each and every single application that you have installed. (You can avoid this in the future by making sure that box is unchecked when you install a new application).

Another step you can take is going to the “Notifications Page”.
On the right hand side will be a list of applications you have added (and more). If you uncheck all of the ones you don’t want to receive notifications about that will stop unnecessary pointless notifications from cluttering up making it easy to miss ones that might be important.

Now for you people who do add all of these applications.
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD STOP ALLOWING FACEBOOK TO EMAIL ALL OF YOUR STUPID CONTACTS INVITING THEM TO EVERYTHING. MOST of us do NOT WANT THIS CRAP. Seriously, pick out the ones you know really really do OR JUST UNCHECK ME… I don’t care about everyone else. smile

Guess who loves music. Me! My tunes are playing 24/7 unless I'm not home (and even then I forget to turn them off). I'm not a music snob. I just love the sound.

Download some music from me.
